About EME Group Jose Higgins, RA, LEED Jose Higgins is the Director of Sustainability at EME Group and is responsible for the firm’s “green” programs that range from assisting clients negotiate their projects through the various certifying programs such as the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED or Green Globes processes to consulting on specific projects that want to reduce their environmental footprint. Mr. Higgins has providing these kinds of services for over 25 years and is widely recognized as expert in the sustainable design community and completed some of the groundbreaking work in the early years of USGBC LEED certification process. Mr. Higgins directs a staff of architects and engineers that are expert in providing these services. A recent notable success is the Omega Institute Center for Sustainable Living in Rhinebeck, New York that achieved the LEED Platinum certification. In addition, the project was the first building to be certified under the stringent “Living Building Challenge” by demonstrating net-zero energy and water use after one year of full operation. The project was also a 2010 American Institute of Architect’s Committee on the Environment (COTE) Top Ten that recognizes escalating standards of sustainable building design and performance. He received his architectural degree from the New York Institute of Technology. |
